Description:

Stress is an inevitable part of life and many people in our communities are facing unprecedented levels of stress in these challenging times. This class offers herbal knowledge and curanderismo practices to help you to tend to yourself and to build resilience when facing stress.

We will explore how stress affects us emotionally, physically, and spiritually. We’ll look at how the nervous system responds to overwhelming experiences and how herbs can gently support us to be more resilient.

A central part of this class is learning how to build relationships with herbs. We will discuss how our herbal allies are not simply substitutes for pharmaceutical drugs, but cherished friends who offer us nourishment, guidance and unconditional love. We’ll talk about herbal nervines and adaptogens, and how they can help us navigate both acute and chronic stress.

We’ll explore the healing gifts of familiar plant relatives such as manzanilla (chamomile) and pasiflora (passionflower), along with other herbal remedies for anxiety, muscle tension, insomnia, and emotional overwhelm. We will also learn practices rooted in ancestral wisdom such as limpias and baños that support our emotional, energetic, and spiritual well-being.

Laura Yohualtlahuiz & Polaris Castillo will create a safe and platonic environment designed to disrupt colonial and intergenerational taboos surrounding sexuality and sensuality based on the Huehuetlatohlli (Cantares Mexicanos) and the Florentine Codex, as documented by Mesoamerican historian Miguel Leon-Portilla in his last publication before becoming an ancestor, Erótica Nahuatl. Participants will receive a sensuality gift with their registration that includes anointing oils, teas, incense, and healing stones in addition to a live sketch scribed by Polaris during our practice.

Knowledge & Sources Credit: Temachtiani Miguel Leon-Portilla - MesoAmerican Anthropologist, Ethnographer, & Historian

***This movement ritual is an offering led by Cihuatlatohki Laura Yohualtlahuiz in collaboration with Talkuilo Polaris Castillo based on their research on Nahuatl Erotica as mentioned in the Huehuetlatohlli (Cantares Mexicanos) and the Florentine Codex as documented by the late historian, Miguel Leon-Portilla. By registering participants agree to not replicate or conduct this ritual in public or for profit without explicit consent and guidance from Laura Yohualtlahuiz, a traditional Culture Bearer of Anahuaka teachings, in order to honor the traditional transmission of the ritual practices and knowledge shared in the space.

This is our third weekly community gathering, held every Thursday at 8 pm. We'll talk about how immigration raids affect people's feelings and mental health, and we'll also learn simple ways to support each other emotionally. Our group focuses on really listening, recognizing each other's challenges, and sharing hope through caring for one another. Together, we'll create promises to support our community with love and strength, using our shared skills and passion to stand together and take meaningful action. We’re excited to build this caring community with you, bringing hope and strength to our shared future

_______________

Please join us Thursday evening 7/3/2025 from 8-9:30pm PST. We invite you to participate in a supportive sanctuary dedicated to healing and emotional resilience in the face of systemic violence devastating Los Angeles.

Behind the walls of brutal immigration raids, a merciless force tears through the very fabric of our communities—spreading fear, pain, and deep despair. Yet, even in these harrowing moments, we must hold onto the unwavering courage of those who came before us—brave social activists whose sacrifices and relentless pursuit of justice have lit the path toward hope and transformation.

In standing in solidarity with immigrant communities and recognizing the profound connection between social justice, community healing, and collective strength, we come together to create a safe, compassionate space where voices are heard, and spirits are uplifted.

Everyone is welcome—regardless of background—to share in emotional support, open their hearts, and connect through shared experiences. Our group will emphasize genuine listening, witnessing each other's struggles, and inspiring hope through mutual care. Together, we will craft community commitments rooted in love and resilience, harnessing our collective talents and passion to sustain meaningful solidarity and action. We look forward to building this supportive community with you, weaving strength and hope into the fabric of our collective future.
